Christchurch Art Outside
In the city where many galleries have been majorly affected by the earthquakes, art never sleeps. Moving outside into public space, art is providing a much needed resource for the soul. Christchurch Art Gallery as part of their Outer Spaces Project has facilitated an installation, The Creation of the World by Ronnie Van Hout, in a bungalow opposite the gallery on Worcester Boulevard, which is only visible at night. Meanwhile the gallery and Gapfiller have been at work in Sydenham where Wayne Youle’s I seem to have temporarily misplaced my sense of humou is a billboard sized artwork depicting a giant shadowboard with images that suggest items that may have been lost or misplaced in the recent destruction and tools that will be needed in the Christchurch rebuild.
